 Students and workshop attendees alike are drawn to Laura’s vibrant enthusiasm and her dedicated focus on fostering strong partner connection, musicality, self-expression, and, most importantly, the joy of dance. As one enthusiastic event organizer remarked: “It seems as if everyone who took her classes believed she danced on water!” 

Laura’s training is equally impressive. She had the privilege of studying for several years under the legendary Ambassador of Lindy Hop Mr. Frankie Manning, who served as her coach and chief choreographer for the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers. Her education also includes extensive work with renowned figures such as Ryan Francois, and Jenny Thomas, among other contemporary Lindy Hop luminaries. Laura Jeffers is a prominent figure in the Lindy Hop community, best known as the director of The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers, a New York City (Manhattan)-based performance troupe co‑founded by Frankie Manning.  The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers is the performance troupe of the New York Swing Dance Society, a nonprofit organization. With their high-flying aerials, playful musicality and vibrantly contagious energy, The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers bring the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s to life for audiences of all ages. Since the mid-1980s,The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers have been performing their classic Lindy Hop routines since their creation in the mid 1980’s at such renowned venues as: First Night New York City, Radio City Music Hall, the Lincoln Center, the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, the Battery Park Conservancy, Waterside Plaza and the (now sadly defunct) Roseland Ballroom. She has dedicated years to preserving and teaching the art of Lindy Hop, blending its roots in jazz dance with contemporary performance and competition styles. She has a compiled list of Frankie Manning’s Favorite Steps, a curated list of steps Frankie performed, taught, and choreographed often, to help preserve and teach his legacy and his contemporaries to future dancers. The goal of the Big Apple Lindy Hoppers is to help keep Lindy Hop alive and kicking! She aims to honor the traditional Lindy Hop of Frankie Manning and his contemporaries as well as to showcase the work of a new generation of talented dancers and choreographers. She also wishes to provide troupe members a fun, challenging forum in which to learn exciting choreography and develop their skills as dancers and performers.

 Jeffers is recognized for her energy, enthusiasm, and ability to make Lindy Hop accessible and joyful for students of all levels. She has been a key figure in keeping the dance alive in several NYC dance venues and beyond, bridging the gap between historical techniques and modern performance.
